Drop canned food and winter coats at Milton City Hall, the police station or any of four fire stations by Nov. 20. It all goes to North Fulton Community Charities.
The city of Milton is collecting nonperishable food and winter clothes for neighbors in need. Donations are accepted at six city buildings until Nov. 20.
Everything collected goes to North Fulton Community Charities, the nonprofit based in Roswell, about eight miles south. The city said it will deliver the donations before Thanksgiving. The details are in the city’s news release posted Friday.
Where to drop off
| Location | Address | When |
|---|---|---|
| City Hall | 2006 Heritage Walk | Weekday business hours, from 8:30 a.m. Monday |
| Milton Police station | 13690 Highway 9, back building | Weekday business hours, from 8:30 a.m. Monday |
| Fire Station 41 | 12670 Arnold Mill Road | Most times, when crews are in |
| Fire Station 42 | 15240 Thompson Road | Most times, when crews are in |
| Fire Station 43 | 750 Hickory Flat Road | Most times, when crews are in |
| Fire Station 44 | 13690 Highway 9, front building | Most times, when crews are in |
The police station and Fire Station 44 share the Highway 9 address. The city said the police drop-off is in the back building, farthest from Highway 9 and closer to Cambridge High School. It is the same entrance as Milton Municipal Court. The fire station drop-off is in the front building, closest to the highway.
The fire stations take donations “most anytime,” the city said, as long as firefighters are there and not out on a call.
City Hall and the police station do not accept donations when city offices are closed. That includes weekends and Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.
What to give
The city asked for food that keeps at room temperature without spoiling. Its examples:
- canned food
- packaged items such as cereal or macaroni and cheese
- dried goods
- staples such as spices, honey, coffee, tea and peanut butter
It also asked for winter clothes:
- jackets
- gloves
- hats
- sweaters
Where it goes
North Fulton Community Charities says on its website that it has helped families through hardship since 1983. It offers food, financial assistance and career development services to people who register, and runs a thrift shop that gives free clothing to families in need.
The city said it is “just the waystation” for the donations. It said the nonprofit assists many people in Milton.
